A penny slot machine generated a whopping $3 million jackpot for one super lucky player at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City on January 2nd 2016.
The machine is a city-wide progressive Wheel of Fortune® penny slot. The bet was 400 pennies or $4 with a winning payout of exactly $3,084,922.63. According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the winning prize amount is legitimate and is the biggest win in over three years in Atlantic City. Kerry Langan, from New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement, verified that the machine was functioning well when the jackpot was won.
The winner, a 50-year old woman who hails from Kendall Park, New Jersey, is a regular at the casino. Charlie Rando, vice president of the Taj’s casino operations, said that the woman, who requested anonymity, wasn’t even five minutes in playing the machine when she hit the jackpot. The property is closing up from a bankruptcy restructuring and the huge winning is very apt. Rando said: The Taj is open for business and we’re a lucky casino.”
The slot designer, manufacturer and operator of the progressive system linking all Atlantic City casinos is IGT. The company will, of course, pay the jackpot.
The biggest jackpot won before this one was on another Wheel of Fortune® slot machine at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. The pot prize won on December of 2012 reached $3.8 million.
In 2013, $2.6 million was won on penny machine Wizard of Oz at Borgata. This came after the $1.1 million jackpot at Golden Nugget.
In 2014, three mega jackpots were won. They was a $1 million win at Bally’s, a $1.3 million hit at Harrah’s and a $2.5 million jackpot win at the Golden Nugget.
The year 2015 saw only one million-dollar-plus jackpot won in Atlantic City. The $1.5 million jackpot was won online at Betfair Casino.
